The smallmouth yellowfish are an indigenous species found only in the rivers of Southern Africa. Smallmouth yellowfish are desirable to catch due to their strong fighting capabilities, beautiful appearance, and the thrill of fly fishing for them. It is a hardy species that has the ability to inhabit smaller streams owing to its smaller size. Attaining a mass of around 9 kg, it primary feeds on nymphs and aquatic insects, making them an ideal target for fly anglers.
Largemouth Bass
Largemouth bass fishing is popular in South Africa and they can grow to be significant, with exceptional individuals reaching 5 kilograms or more. Sharp-tooth Catfish
Also known In South Africa, as “barbel” is a freshwater catfish species. They are a popular angling fish and can grow quite large. They are known for their strong fighting ability and are a popular target for anglers. Barbel are attracted to bait that appears to be natural food drifting downstream, so using luncheon meat, boilies, or pellets is a good starting point.
African Mottled Eel
These eels are found in rivers and dams and have a light brown colour with mottled black or brown markings. They are known to hide in rocks and caves. Eels are opportunistic feeders and will eat various items like crabs, frogs, earthworms, and fish.
